Questions
Level 7 aesthetic practice
What is the Level 7 Diploma in Aesthetic Practice?
An Ofqual-regulated qualification (610/4479/9) covering consultation, the psychology of facial aesthetics, ethics, Botulinum toxin and temporary Dermal filler treatments, and the management of complications. It is 660 hours of total qualification time, 380 of them guided learning. Full Level 7 details.
Can non-medics do Level 7?
Yes, through the qualification route: a Level 5 or 6 Diploma in Aesthetic Practice (or equivalent), a Level 6 qualification that includes anatomy and professional practice, and valid Regulated Level 3 Basic Life Support. Registered nurses and doctors can enter directly.
Can I go straight from Level 4 to Level 7?
Not under the awarding body’s current specification. You need a Level 5 or 6 Diploma first, unless you are a registered nurse or doctor.
How is Level 7 assessed?
By portfolio. Each practical competence is observed at least ten times during hands-on training, including at least six needle and four cannula filler treatments, with photo or video evidence.
What changes in January 2027?
The awarding body has published a new Level 7 Diploma in Aesthetic Practice and Injectable Procedures (610/7957/1) starting on 1 January 2027 with tougher entry requirements and stricter prescriber and assessor supervision. Ask us how it affects your start date.
Questions
Choosing a course
I am a complete beginner. Where do I start?
Either the Level 3 Diploma in Pathway to Aesthetic Practice, which has no formal entry requirements, or our two-day Pathway to Aesthetics CPD programme for hands-on experience quickly.
What is the difference between Ofqual-regulated, CPD and ABT courses?
Regulated diplomas are Ofqual-regulated qualifications with set entry requirements and portfolio assessment. CPD and ABT-accredited courses are shorter, focused courses for a specific treatment. Both are useful; only regulated diplomas are regulated qualifications.
What is the difference between a certificate and a diploma?
A certificate usually covers one focused area, while a diploma is larger and covers a wider range of units at that level.
Can years of experience replace qualifications?
Sometimes. The awarding body’s Level 4 Diploma accepts five years’ verifiable beauty-sector experience, and the Level 6 Diploma accepts five years’ verifiable experience in the Level 4 treatments with a trade test. The current Level 5 and Level 7 specifications have no experience-only route.
Questions
Regulation and the law in 2026
Do I legally need a qualification to give Botox or fillers in England?
Not at the moment. No law in England currently names a required qualification, but the government is developing a licensing scheme for non-surgical cosmetic procedures.
Can I treat under-18s?
No. Giving Botulinum toxin or Dermal filler for cosmetic purposes to anyone under 18 is an offence in England under the Botulinum Toxin and Cosmetic Fillers (Children) Act 2021.
What did the government propose in October 2026?
A consultation, open until 13 January 2027, on restricting procedures such as IV drips, PRP and other blood-derived treatments, deep Chemical peels and filler outside the face to doctors, dentists and independent prescribers (filler outside the face to doctors only), with providers registered with the Care Quality Commission. Botulinum toxin and dissolvable facial fillers are not on the proposed list.
