Who the Level 5 Diploma is for

Level 5 is the natural step for practitioners who already hold a Level 4 qualification and want to treat deeper skin concerns with confidence. Microneedling and chemical peels are staple clinic treatments, and doing them properly means understanding anatomy, contraindications and aftercare, not just the device or the acid.

It also starts to move you into clinical territory. Two of the five units, professional practice and advanced anatomy and physiology, are themselves set at Level 6.

Is Level 5 enough to start injecting?

No. Level 5 is about advanced skin treatments. Injectables such as skin boosters appear at Level 6, and anti-wrinkle and dermal fillers at Level 7.

Assessment

How Level 5 is assessed

  • A portfolio of evidence, marked by our assessors and quality-assured by ProQual.
  • Knowledge units through written work and professional discussion.
  • Practical work evidenced with photos or video, an assessor’s observation report, witness testimony and your reflection.
  • Each practical criterion observed at least six times; microneedling three times on the face and three on the body.
  • Assessed treatments on live models aged 18 or over, which we provide during practical training.

What if my first aid runs out during the course?

ProQual asks for a currently valid first-aid qualification at entry. If yours is close to expiring, book our Level 3 Basic Life Support, AED and Anaphylaxis award alongside, since it is valid for three years.

Questions

Level 5 aesthetics FAQs

What do I need to start Level 5?
An Ofqual-regulated Level 4 Certificate or Diploma in aesthetic practice (or an equivalent), a currently valid Level 3 first-aid qualification, and the chance to treat clients, which we provide through live models. You must be 18 or over on the day you register.
Which Level 4 qualifications count?
ProQual’s examples include the Level 4 Certificate in Dermaplaning, the Level 4 Certificate in Cryolipolysis, the Level 4 Diploma in Aesthetic Treatments and Skin Science, the Level 4 Diploma in Laser, IPL and Electrical Treatments and the Level 4 Diploma in Non-Surgical Body Contouring. Bring yours to your initial assessment and we will check it.
Is there an experience-only route into Level 5?
Not in the current ProQual Level 5 specification. You need a Level 4 qualification. If you have years of experience but no Level 4, the Level 6 Diploma has an experience route that may suit you better.
What treatments does Level 5 cover?
Microneedling and chemical peels, alongside infection control, professional practice for aesthetic practitioners and anatomy and physiology for advanced aesthetic practice.
How is it assessed?
Through a portfolio of evidence. Each practical criterion is observed at least six times, and microneedling must be observed three times on the face and three on the body, on live models aged 18 or over.
Can I go from Level 5 to Level 7?
ProQual lists Level 7 as a progression route from Level 5. Level 7 also asks for a Level 6 qualification that includes anatomy and professional practice, so we confirm at your initial assessment whether you need anything else first.
Where is Level 5 taught?
At City Hair & Beauty Academy in Wood Green, London, close to Bowes Park and Palmers Green stations.
